Ford Mustang Brings Back California Special

The 2019 Ford Mustang California Special pulls some of the aesthetic DNA from the original 1968 auto without managing to look hokey, no mean feat these days.

2019 Ford Mustang brings California Special, rev-matching and more originally appeared on Autoblog on Monday, 12 Mar 2018 00:01:00 EDT.

On the outside, the California Special Mustang flaunts a fading stripe stretching from the 5.0 badge up front to the rear fenders, a blackened grille, a splitter donated by the Mustang Performance Pack 1 and five-spoke machined rims. All 2019 Mustang GTs with manual transmissions will have a rev-matching function for smooth downshifts that don't require you to do your own heel-and-toe work. A "California Special" script badge adorns the dash on the passengers side. "This signature design takes its cues from the original California Special, while enhancing the personality of today's Mustang".

The 50th anniversary Bullitt Mustang isn't the only special version of Ford's muscle auto icon being introduced for 2019. Unique wheels round out the CS package.

Cabin-wise, those looking to get the California Special should expect black Miko suede seats with red stitching.

Besides the paint job, today's reiteration of the California Special Mustang involves a fair share of technology. Also, this is the first Mustang to be equipped with a Bang & Olufsen sound system.

Ford is also leveraging its new partnership with B&O Play on the 2019 Mustang.

When the class-exclusive quad-tip fully variable active valve performance exhaust hit the streets for Mustang GT for 2018, critics and customers alike raved over the deep throaty sound of the 5.0-liter V8 engine.

Mustang enthusiasts now have more opportunity to personalize their auto than ever before, with exciting new vintage-inspired colors including Velocity Blue, Need for Green and the iconic Bullitt model's exclusive Dark Highland Green.

The 2019 Ford Mustang will go on sale this summer.
