Xbox's Phil Spencer Sounds Off On Fortnite Crossplay Potential, Along With Marketing

Looks like PS4 vs. Xbox One cross-play on Fornite isn’t happening after all

Looks like PS4 vs. Xbox One cross-play on Fornite isn’t happening after all

The Xbox One is still a console and built with the same x86 architecture like the PS4, there shouldn't be any technical differences that would prevent both systems from cross-play. "Microsoft has always been a leading voice in encouraging the adoption of cross-platform play and the potential of connecting players across PC, mobile and all consoles".

Epic Games announced their partnership with Microsoft in a recent post on their website.

In a happy incident back in September previous year, a bug in the game caused players from Xbox One and PS4 play together. We've been working together with them over the last several months to make this possible, and will bring this functionality to Fortnite players on Xbox right along with other platforms'. While a second announcement detailed cross-platform play between the Xbox, Mobile, and PC.

A couple of days ago, we shared the news that Epic Games' Fortnite: Battle Royale will be getting a mobile release, and with the mobile release, will end up supporting crossplay and cross-progress functionality.

This is mainly due to Sony, being hesitant when it comes to allowing its PlayStation 4 games to cross-play with Xbox One.

And now, Fortnite has announced that the game is coming on mobile devices.

Earlier it was reported that Fortnite Battle Royale would be arriving on mobile devices where it would also allow cross-platform play between mobile gamers, PC gamers, Mac gamers, and PS4 gamers. However, as it stands, the final word will still remain with Sony if they will accept the offer or once again lock out their players like they did with "Minecraft" and "Rocket League".
