Amazon recalls 260000 portable chargers amid reports of fires and acid burns

The recall affects six models of power bank, the 16,100mAh, 10,000mAh, 5,600mAh, 3,000mAh, 2,000mAh with Micro USB cable, and 3,000mAh with Micro USB cable.

Amazon has received 53 reports of the power banks overheating in the United States, including one report of chemical burns due to contact with battery acid and four reports of property damage, including fire and smoke damage.

The US Consumer Product Safety Commission said Amazon received 53 reports of the chargers overheating, including one of a customer who was burned by battery acid.

The chargers, which sold from December 2014 through July 2017 at Amazon.com, Amazon Bookstores and Amazon Pop-Up Stores, retailed for between $9 and $40.

The recall covers a total of six AmazonBasics power bank models with the following ID numbers: B00LRK8EVO, B00LRK8HJ8, B00LRK8I7O, B00LRK8IV0, B00LRK8JDC or B00ZQ4JQAA.

The rubberized or metallic power banks are black and rectangular.

Amazon did not immediately respond to a Fortune request for comment on the recalls. They were manufactured by Guoguang Electric Company Limited, of China.

If you own one of these faulty power banks, expect Amazon to get in contact with you if you purchased the product from them yourself. Alternatively, visit https://amazonpowerbank.expertinquiry.com/ at any time. All affected devices have already been removed from sale on Amazon's website. If your smartphone's battery is running low, you can plug the handsets into the power banks and draw power from them to recharge your handset's battery.
