Driver Flees Car Crash Despite Sledgehammer Being Swung At Him

On Sunday, a whole bunch of South Floridians were dead set on stopping a hit-and-run driver high on narcotics on Sunday...and it included a dude just bashing away at the fleeing vehicle with his handy sledgehammer.

Pedestrians told WSVN that the driver of a silver Infiniti SUV tried to leave the scene of the crash when several people stepped in to try to prevent him from driving away.

Cell phone video captured the intense moments after an SUV crashed into several cars Sunday morning in Miami.

Miami police officers eventually caught up with the vehicle, arrested the driver who is identified as 25-year-old Maxwell Lagutenko. The cause of the wreck is unknown.

Anthony Jimenez said "That is insane".

Then, a man wearing a dark shirt, khaki cargo shorts and black shoes with white socks gets out of a auto and uses a sledgehammer or mallet to smash the SUV's windows. They attempt to pull the man from his vehicle, and one even screams, "Don't move".

One man tries to open the passenger-side door of the vehicle, but breaks off the handle.

But he took exception to the sledgehammer rampage, adding: 'I would call the cops and try to chase him down, but to pull out a hammer?'

Miami police said there were no injuries at the scene and despite the man's attempt to flee he was taken into custody.

Despite repeated attempts of the people to get the driver to stop and get out of the auto, the driver ignores them and continues to accelerate.

Police say they do not encourage drivers to try and stop someone from leaving the scene of a crash.
