Iowa Starting Line said the video was shared by a member of the general public who is not affiliated with a campaign or party organization but "happened to see the scene while at the neighborhood bar", Waveland Tap on University Avenue.

"I not only sponsored and voted for this amendment, but I was a leader who helped shepard (sic) this amendment through the Iowa House", Dix boasted in 2006, when he ran unsuccessfully for Iowa's 1st Congressional District seat.

The woman was identified as a lobbyist for Iowa League of Cities, an organization that seeks to sway legislation at the state Capitol.

Neither Dix nor the lobbyist responded to requests for comment from The Associated Press.

The news is drawing attention because of recent events involving sexual harassment in the Senate Republican caucus. But his office issued a statement confirming Dix's departure.

Reynolds said she would meet with Dix Monday afternoon but declined further comment.

"Liberal activist judges are threatening our family values and you can count on me to be a leader in Congress who will stand up to them and work to pass this amendment to the United States Constitution", Dix said at the time.

When asked by HO TV if Dix should resign, given that the lobbyist - who worked for municipality groups - could represent professional interests that come before Dix in the senate, Reynolds responded, "I think Iowans hold their elected officials to a high standard".

Petersen used her statement to reiterate her criticism of Dix for how he handled a recent sexual misconduct case within the chamber, which involved a former Senate GOP staffer. The lawsuit went to trial last summer, and she was later awarded $1.75 million.

Dix has maintained the ex-staffer was sacked for poor performance.

The incident led to Senator Dix coming under scrutiny for his role in firing Anderson hours after she reported a toxic work environment, with the lawmaker continuing to insist firing the staffer exclusively for job performance reasons. He became majority leader after GOP lawmakers took control of the chamber following the 2016 election.

The Iowa Senate's Democratic minority pledged that it will get to the bottom of Dix's make out session, pointing out that it might have political consequences.

In her weekly press conference Monday, Reynolds says she was aware of the reports, but wanted to find out the facts before making a formal statement.
