Manchester United boss Jose Mourinho has lauded the performances of Scott McTominay and Ashley Young following his side's 2-1 victory over bitter rivals Liverpool.

"It's a big club with big players and for players like me and Marcus it's going to be tough to start every game but once you are on the pitch you have got to make an impact and maybe next game you will be playing".

"We have to beat Sevilla to go through, so we give our best". After Mourinho came out after the Liverpool game criticising the fans who booed McTominay for his "negative" play', it will be interesting to see how the youngster deals with the pressure of a Champions League knockout fixture.

"I remember his beginnings, when sometimes he was not even on the bench but I was taking him with the team as the extra player", Mourinho said.

The pair's meeting in the Old Trafford tunnel after the game suggests that's far from the case, yet claims that the ex-Juventus man has struggled in United's midfield recently certainly isn't gossip.

"I think it's pretty much already been said, to be honest with you", he replied when asked whether he was retiring. As for their recent form, Montella's sides' inability to mount a serious run of results has been his sides main problem, coming off the back of a 2-0 home defeat to Valencia last weekend, Sevilla have now won just two of their last five matches in all competitions.

"You could see that Valencia are risky on the counter, but Sevilla did not defend against that in their 2-0 defeat against them in La Liga on Saturday". Kick-off is at 19:45GMT, but we'll have build up for you before then before team news is out an hour before we get underway at Old Trafford. He was upset with a player and the same happened to me against Crystal Palace where I was upset with my player and therefore they (the officials) understood that too. Pogba has so far been under his standards this season. We know Mourinho has "previous" when it comes to this kind of activity. It is a very important game for us.

"We are a strong team once we take the lead".

JOSE MOURINHO, admitting that Manchester United are not one of the best teams in Europe but believes he is experienced enough to guide them to glory.

"It's a big comp, it would be the first time in 60 years for us to get through to this stage". "In training is where I'm doing most of my learning".

"I think Martin Atkinson (the fourth official) after so many years of this, I think made the right decision".
