Notre Dame women earn #1 seed for NCAA Tournament

This time it's over the women's field, which was released Monday. Notre Dame could not face Louisville unless both advanced to the national championship game, which would be April 1st, also in Columbus.

One interesting part of the bracket is that UConn and last year's title victor, South Carolina, landed in the same regional and could face each other in a regional final in Albany, N.Y.

While the Lady Vols have been in the NCAA Tournament every year since it began in 1982, Nicholls State, Northern Colorado, Mercer and Seattle will making their first appearance. Plenty of the usual suspects were seeded at the top of each region.

The top seeds are no strangers to each other or the Final Four.

The Huskies have wins over 10 ranked opponents, including projected No. 1 seed Louisville and perennial power SC.

There were five teams trying to get into the bracket's top spots and in the end Baylor lost out.

The Huskies enter as the lone unbeaten team and will be vying for their 12th national championship. Auriemma always schedules games against his top foes, some of which come in uncomfortable road environments. Last season, UConn came into the NCAAs as the overwhelming favorite before losing to Mississippi State in the Final Four that ended their 111-game winning streak. The schedule we play, I knew we'd get somebody two or three that we already played. Oregon, South Carolina, Texas, UCLA and Ohio State round out the first 10 teams.

Head coach Vic Schaefer did a tremendous job turning around the program in such a short time, as the Bulldogs were 13-17 in the 2012-13 campaign, which was his first in charge.

UConn finishes No. 1 in The Associated Press women's basketball poll for the fifth straight year.

Dawn Staley's Gamecocks experienced some difficulty during the regular season, as it lost six times, including two in back-to-back games against UConn and Mississippi State.

The Gamecocks lost by 25 at home against UConn on February 1.

Although they're still seen as one of the elite squads in women's basketball, and one of a few that can challenge for a championship, the Gamecocks should be relegated to a No. 2 seed due to their six losses.
