Nun in legal dispute with singer Katy Perry over convent collapses and dies in court

Perry agreed to buy the property for over £10 million, but her offer was rejected by the nuns who basically think she's way too raunchy to inhabit their former place of worship. The 89 year old Sister Catherine Rose Holzman was at the Los Angeles county court for the latest hearing in the case. But at the time, the Archdiocese of Los Angeles had already been in talks to sell it for $14.5 million to Perry, who had plans to live there. Katy Perry. Archbishop Gomez approved her offer, but Perry's still waiting for the Vatican to okay the sale.

Katy Perry has been embroiled in a years-long legal battle with several nuns over a hilltop property in Los Angeles.

As FOX 11 reported on the legal battle between local nuns and Katy Perry over a Los Feliz convent, we learned that one of the nuns involved in the case collapsed and died Friday during a court proceeding related to the case.

"Sister Catherine Rose served the Church with dedication and love for many years and today we remember her life with gratitude", Archbishop Jose H. Gomez said Friday in a statement.

This led to two years of arguments between the Archdiocese, the nuns, Hollister and Perry as to who had the right to sell the property, and who had actually bought it. A lengthy legal battle over who had the right to sell it then ensued, as the archdiocese sued to block the sale to Hollister in 2015, a judge eventually ruling the sale invalid, leaving it open to Perry.

Holzman took her vows at age 18. Her passing is sad, to be sure. "We extend our prayers today to the Immaculate Heart of Mary community and to all her friends and loved ones".

Addressing Perry directly, Holzman added: "Katy Perry, please stop. It's not doing anyone any good except hurting a lot of people", Holzman said.

In a 2015 interview with Billboard, Holzman outlined one of the deepest concerns about the archdiocese's sale to Perry. Hollister was told to shell out $15 million in damages. She also noted that as recently as December, the Vatican's Supreme Tribunal of the Apostolic Signatura affirmed that the archdiocese was the proper legal owner of the vacant convent property.

Another of the nun's concerns is with the singer herself. "It would be a sin to sell to her". This wasn't the first famous case of lawyering Katy Perry was involved in, either, as she also memorably went to war over Left Shark.
