Rabada found guilty of pushing Steve Smith, gets 2-match suspension

Rabada ended the match with combined figures of 11 wickets for 150 runs, proving to be the clear difference between the sides.

Star South Africa fast bowler Kagiso Rabada was banned for the rest of the series against Australia on Monday after being found guilty of two charges of misconduct for aggressive wicket celebrations in the second test in Port Elizabeth.

But the fired-up quick has been given four demerit points and fined 65 per cent of his match fee from the game at St George's Park.

When asked if he had been more pumped up for this match after the shenanigans of Durban, Rabada said his preparation had been no different.

"I know there are times after a couple of overs you just give the umpire a tap and say "sorry" and they understand".

He added: "As I had said before this game, Rabada and (Mitchell) Starc would be the two bowlers to look out for and they would be the ones to get excessive reverse swing since they are exceptional bowlers".

It's early days yet in Rabada's career but in all the 2 298 tests played‚ only Sydney Barnes‚ Clarrie Grimmett and Muttiah Muralitharan have taken a higher percentage of 10-fers measured against matches played.

"If I knew I did it deliberately I wouldn't have contested it", said Rabada. He had the opportunity to avoid the contact, and I could not see any evidence to support the argument that the contact was accidental. "I can't keep doing this because I'm letting the team down and I'm also letting myself down", he told reporters after starring in the six-wicket win.

It's not the first time Rabada has been forced to the sidelines, he was banned for the second test against England in July past year after swearing at Ben Stokes, with the punishment pushing him to four demerit points.

David Warner's confrontation with Quinton de Kock has dominated the agenda, with the Aussie vice-captain alleging that the batsman made "vile and disgusting" comments about his wife. "I'm not happy about it". Rabada screamed into Warner's face after bowling him, after yelling into Smith's in the first innings. Tim Paine was left unbeaten on 28.

"We have to single out KG", South Africa captain Faf du Plessis said. It's competitive. There's a history of South Africa and Australia playing against each other. The key seemed to be Mitchell Marsh, the last member of Australia's top six, who was unbeaten on 39 at the start of play. Markram made 21 before he was caught by Smith at second slip off Hazlewood. His courage leaked into Hashim Amla, who moved to 27 before an uncharacteristically loose drive at a wide delivery from Pat Cummins brought about his downfall. Through the majesty of AB de Villiers, South Africa did that easily and levelled the series 1-1.

Series: The four-match series is level at 1-1.
