YouTube's mobile app finally gets a dark theme

YouTube is finally giving its mobile app a dark theme, almost a year after the Google subsidiary introduced the night-friendly mode on desktop.

Let us know if you see Dark Mode hit your YouTube app at some point! From there, you'll notice the background of the app darkens to a deep gray color.

Google is rolling out its dark theme update to iOS users today, and plans to release the update to Android users "soon".

So when will those last details be ironed out and YouTube dark mode for Android ready for all to enjoy? According to The Verge, a Dark Mode will now also come to the YouTube app for both iOS and Android.

In a brief post on a YouTube support page, the company detailed how to use dark mode on mobile and where exactly it's available. "Dark theme", and letting you toggle it on right away.

Apart from making it easier on the eyes in a dimly-lit setting, a dark mode can help you to better focus on content and potentially save a bit of battery life.

Dark themes on mobile have become more popular in recent times with services like Twitter, Reddit and Telegram embracing the dark theme.

With the update, YouTube joins a growing list of apps that feature a dark mode.
