Ex-Jets DE Muhammad Wilkerson signs 1-year deal with Packers

Muhammad Wilkerson embarked on a four-city tour over the past several days but has made a decision, and it turns out the first stop on that two-time zone sojourn was telling.

NY officially released Wilkerson on February 28.

The veteran defensive linemen has agreed to terms on a deal to join the team once the new league year begins, per ESPN's Rob Demovsky.

Under new leadership in the front office the Green Bay Packers are approaching free agency with more aggression than ever before. He took a one-year deal and will have a chance to prove he's the player he was.

The Jets released Wilkerson on March 5, ending a seven-year run in NY that turned bitter last season. Coach Mike McCarthy fired defensive coordinator Dom Capers in January after nine seasons.

They will need to address the cornerback position at some point, but Gutekunst is well aware. His tendency for being late to meetings throughout his career reared its ugly head in 2017, with the Jets ultimately ruling him inactive for the final three games of the season.

The Jets chose to keep him off the field for the remainder of the season because they were concerned about a potential injury, which could have resulted in the team being on the hook for his 2018 salary.

Green Bay adds Jimmy Graham and Mo Wilkerson.

If not, the Packers will have only paid $5 million for the opportunity to find out.

That seemed to change, however, when he was signed to a five-year, $86 million contract extension before the 2016 campaign, according to Spotrac.

The 2011 first-round pick made the Pro Bowl for the first time in 2015 after registering 64 tackles and a career-high 12 sacks.

His decline coincided with the new contract. After racking up 28.5 sacks from 2013 to 2015, he has managed a paltry eight quarterback takedowns in 28 games over the past two years.
