Dozens of angry Lille fans stormed the pitch following their home draw with Montpellier

Chelsea superstar forward Eden Hazard has called for calm from his former club's fans at relegation-threatened Lille OSC following the ugly scenes that marred their 1-1 draw with Montpellier on Saturday.

Lille is in danger of being relegated from the French Ligue 1 and sit second from bottom with 28 points from 29 games.

Some of the fans who swarmed onto the pitch managed to shout insults and even aim kicks at players, including Nicolas Pepe, the Ivory Coast forward whose goal had earned Lille a draw in the game at the Stade Pierre-Mauroy. Some of the players were also directly physically attacked before security officers could intervene and escort the players to safety.

With Lopez watching from the stands, about 200 fans broke through the line of stewards and stormed on to the pitch, aiming their fury at the players.

"Even if we lose 10-0, there is no place for that sort of behaviour", Lopez told AFP, in reference of the fans chants; 'If we go down, we'll kill you'.

Enyeama has a contract with the club until the end of the 2018-2019 season.

Stewards initially struggled to stop fans from entering the tunnel to the dressing rooms.

President Gerard Lopez, the Luxembourg-born businessman who bought the club a year ago, was in the stands and television cameras caught him shaking his head in disbelief at the scenes that marred the end of the game.

'They are fans who lost control, but they are also fans who are unhappy and sad, ' Galtier said. "I don't accept that my players are punched, that my players are treated this way".
