Quarterback calls: Brees stays with Saints, Keenum to Denver

Whole NFL world is waiting on Kirk Cousins to make decision

Whole NFL world is waiting on Kirk Cousins to make decision

The Vikings have offered the free agent quarterback a three-year, $86 million deal, according to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport. McCown played on a one-year, $6 million contract with the Jets last season - and wound up surprising many observers with how well he performed.

National Football League teams can't sign free agents until 3 p.m. CDT Wednesday.

One of those desperate teams in is the New York Jets, who have been linked to the quarterback soon after the Redskins traded for Alex Smith, making Cousins expendable after being franchise tagged for the past two seasons. Cousins numbers are nearly the same as Case Keenum's numbers last year, with the only difference being that Cousins has averaged that over three years and Keenum was a breakout in 2017.

Washington Redskins quarterback Kirk Cousins warms up before a game against the San Francisco 49ers on October 15, 2017 in Landover, Maryland.

Kirk Cousins is likely to sign with the Minnesota Vikings, per sources.

Soon, Kirk Cousins' ties to the Washington Redskins will be a thing of the past.

"Will only confirm they'll get the first visit", McCartney told the the St. Paul Pioneer Press.

The Vikings drafted Bridgewater with the 32nd overall pick in 2014.

The Jets are also pursuing 25-year-old Teddy Bridgewater in free agency, according to various reports.

Assuming Cousins, who turns 30 on August 19, signs with the Vikings and starts in Week 1 of the regular season, he would be the Vikings' sixth different opening day starter in seven years at quarterback. Despite seeming to be a franchise quarterback, he and the Redskins could never agree over a long-term deal for three years. Rodgers can't backtrack and make Cousins the exception to the rule.

In 2017 Cousins topped the 4,000-yard mark for the third straight season. Keenum reportedly agreed to terms with the Broncos on Tuesday, while Bradford and Bridgewater remain available. That led to a big payday for a journeyman who had started eight games for the Houston Texans in 2013 and nine games for the Los Angeles Rams in 2016 before posting an 11-3 regular-season record as the Vikings' starter in 2017.
