The Crown's Queen Claire Foy Reportedly Paid Less Than Co-Star Matt Smith

After all, she IS playing the person wearing the crown, so shouldn't she get the biggest pay cheque?

Matt Smith is more famous because of his run in Doctor Who, but Claire Foy wasn't exactly some unknown actress.

But she quickly became a star after she was cast as the young queen, earning a best actress Golden Globe for the first season and a Golden Globe nomination in the same category for the second season. For its next two seasons, the roles have been recast with older actors.

Not even the Queen is getting an equal slice of the pie but producers of The Crown say they will put that right next season.

Foy, however, will not be reprising her role as Queen Elizabeth.

Suzanne Mackie, one of the show's producers, said the discrepancy was being resolved for the third season but that it will not benefit Foy.

If you thought the most valuable person in The Crown would be the person who wears the crown, think again - producers have revealed that Doctor Who star Matt Smith was actually paid more for the Netflix series than co-star Claire Foy.

Foy, on the other hand, had only appeared in smaller British dramas before winning The Crown's main role. She was also nominated for a Primetime Emmy Award for Season 1. Smith did not receive any award season recognition for his work as Prince Philip. Foy not getting equal pay on a show where her character and Smith's are constantly fighting about him feeling emasculated by her power is so deliciously poetic I could nearly laugh.

"Going forward, no-one gets paid more than the Queen", she said.

Variety previously reported Foy made $40,000 per episode.

Representatives for Smith and Foy did not respond to CNN's multiple requests for comment.

In January, it was revealed that Michelle Williams earned 1% of what costar Mark Wahlberg received for re-shooting "All The Money" without Kevin Spacey.
