For Best Chef Southwest (the region Texas is in), McHugh is joined by Austin's Michael Fojtasek (Olamaie), as well as Bryce Gilmore (Barley Swine), Santa Fe's Martín Rios (Restaurant Martín) and Denver's Alex Seidel (Mercantile Dining & Provision).

Three San Antonio chefs made the James Beard semifinalist list of 2018 Restaurant and Chef Award, announced February 15 - chefs Diego Galicia and Rico Torres of Restaurant Mixtli and McHugh.

This was Randolph's third consecutive time as a "Best Chef: Midwest" semifinalist.

In an announcement on March 14 at Parc by Stephen Starr in Philadelphia, local talent nabbed spots on the Best Chefs Southwest list and received nods for restaurant design.

In the national category of Outstanding Chef, Donald Link of Herbsaint, Cochon and Peche scored another nomination.

This is the fourth year in a row that Carlisle has been nominated for a James Beard Award for Ardent. For the first time, Anvil Bar & Refuge is a finalist for Outstanding Bar Program. Vedge marked six years in business last Fall. The category is reserved for chefs aged 30 or younger. While over 20 DC-area names were recognized in almost every category in this year's first round, only a handful remain contenders.

Outstanding Wine, Beer or Spirits Professional: Finalist Miljenko "Mike" Grgich's claim to fame is making the 1973 Chateau Montelena Chardonnay that beat the best French white Burgundies at the Judgment of Paris in 1976.

The awards, considered the Oscars of the culinary world, will be announced May 7 in Chicago.
