Ruckus in Gujarat assembly

After the ugly scenes in the House, Speaker Rajendra Trivedi suspended Congress legislators Amrish Der and Pratp Dudhat for three years while another Opposition party member Baldevji Thakor was suspended for one year.

The motions were put to vote by Speaker Rajendra Trivedi and passed by a majority vote.

Madam wanted to know whether the government meant to table the report of the commission entrusted to investigate the unfortunate incident. Both the children were from Madam's constituency. "Our members were not allowed to speak in the House and when they tried, they were provoked by the ruling party members", said Leader of the Opposition Paresh Dhanani. Der questioned the Speaker's intention, for which he received a warning from the Speaker.

Angry over the suspension of their colleagues, the other Congress MLAs walked out of the House in protest.

A fierce argument broke out between another Congress lawmaker, Pratap Dudhat, and BJP legislator Jagdish Panchal. This forced the Speaker to adjourn the House for 10 minutes, which was later extended till 2.30 p.m.

Deputy Chief Minister Patel said the incident was shameful. He claimed the conduct of Congress MLAs Vikram Madam, Pratap Dudhat and Ambrish Der have been recorded by the CCTV cameras in the House and maintained BJP will request the Speaker to make it accessible to the media.

According to reports, Dudhat, who represents Savarkundla seat, used his belt targeting Nikol MLA Panchal.

Legislators here clashed during the discussion on the deaths of two cousins staying at the self-styled godman Asaram Bapu's ashram for children. But they are trying to silence our voices. In return, BJP MLAs collectively thrashed him inside the House. "Today also, he spoke something bad about my mother which infuriated me and I rushed towards him in a spate of anger", he alleged.

Panchal, for his part, denied using foul language. "I do not even know what I was being suspended for", he said. "In fact, outside the House, Congress legislator Baldev Thakor threatened to break my legs". He objected that the leader of the opposition should understand the limitations of time for a question.
