Ravens expected to release Maclin

National Football League free agency officially opens up later on Wednesday afternoon.

A two-time 1,000-yard receiver, Maclin was a Pro Bowl selection in 2014 when he had 85 receptions for a career-best 1,318 yards and 10 touchdowns.

Don't get too excited about the move but at least it is a start for the Ravens dipping into the free agent market, and all great things need to begin somewhere right?

The veteran wideout's release comes shortly after the Ravens added wideouts, Ryan Grant and John Brown.

Brown enters his fifth season with much to prove after health issues limited him over the past two years.

Adam Schefter, NFL analyst for ESPN, reports that the Baltimore Ravens have made a decision to release Maclin just one year into his contract, allowing the veteran to now try to find a third team in three seasons. If those three depart, the only returning receivers for the Ravens will be Breshad Perriman, Chris Moore and Quincy Adeboyejo.

Maclin missed four games due to injury, including the final two of the season, and eclipsed 60 receiving yards just once. Moore finished the season with 18 catches for 248 yards, and Adeboyejo, an undrafted rookie previous year, was on the practice squad until the final game of the season and did not have any receptions.
