A Jersey Shore high school spent part of Wednesday morning on lockdown as police investigated a weapons threat on the campus.

All schools in the Atascadero Unified School District were locked down after the threat, and a planned walkout protest was canceled after students were asked to shelter in place, reported The Tribune.

The disturbing discovery comes one the heels of #NationalWalkoutDay, in which thousands of students across the country walked out of their classroom to speak out to lawmakers in support of more effective gun control laws. We also brought in some K-9's to search the hallways, and do a very comprehensive search the best we can to ensure the safety of the school, students and staff. San Leandro police issued a community message shortly before 11:10 a.m. Police swept the campus but did not find any guns. "We chose to work with the school and clear the grounds today - just as a precaution", said Lt. Benabou.
