He also lifted a decades-long ban on cinema and music festivals, and has cracked down on corruption.

The 32-year-old Prince Muhammad bin Salman will also likely discuss the cultural and political changes he is implementing in Saudi Arabia during his talks with the USA president. He has a close relationship with Trump and his son-in-law and aide Jared Kushner, who is seen as having given the green light for Prince Mohammed's rush to consolidate power in recent months.

The interview aired ahead of the US leg of his first global tour since becoming Crown Prince a year ago. From Houston, HRH the Crown Prince will return to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. We own very large lots of land, and my personal life is the same as it was 10 or 20 years ago. There are a lot of challenges.

The crown prince is known to have said earlier that he wants to take Saudi Arabia "back to what we were, a moderate Islam".

He said, "We were victims, especially my generation that suffered from this a great deal". "Many of those ideas contradict the way of life during the time of the Prophet (pbuh)", he said.

Saudi Arabia's hawkish young crown prince has made it clear that his patience is wearing thin.

"In fact, we believe in the notion of human rights, but ultimately Saudi standards are not the same as American standards. I'm not Gandhi or Mandela", he said. He said women are "absolutely" equal to men.

Trump will also discuss the crisis between Saudi Arabia and Qatar with Salman and "emphasize the importance of a unified Gulf Cooperation Council", said the official, referring to an umbrella organization of six countries in the Persian Gulf.

He has accused Iran of waging proxy wars across the Arab world, through Shiite groups in Yemen, Syria, Lebanon and Bahrain.

"Unfortunately, Iran is playing a harmful role".

Both efforts are problematic for the United States, however, in ways that don't concern Russian Federation and China. This includes the son of Osama bin Laden, the new leader of Al-Qaeda. He then adds: "If you think you can just applaud his anti-Iran stance and religious reforms and all will work out fine, you're wrong".

Russian Federation has already scored a visit to Moscow previous year from King Salman, Mohammed's father, as well as a separate visit by Mohammed, as the kingdom moves to diversify its foreign ties.

"What we did in Saudi Arabia was extremely necessary" and legal, he said.

Muhammad has been praised by some Western leaders for seeking to ease Saudi Arabia's reliance on oil for economic growth while tackling chronic corruption and seeking to transform the Sunni Muslim kingdom into a modern society.
