The advert gained attention after Chance the Rapper shared the commercial on his Twitter page where he branded the 30-second clip as "terribly racist".

Heineken has removed a commercial for its light beer from TV and online platforms after online backlash saying that it was racist and insensitive.

The American rapper, Chance the Rapper, tweeted that the ad was "terrible racist", and also that he thought Heineken deliberately put out "noticeably racist ads so that they can get more views".

In the commercial, a bartender slides a bottle of Heineken Light past several black people before it lands at a lighter-skinned woman with the punchline, "Sometimes lighter is better".

Regardless of the ad already being pulled, many are tweeting about Chance's impact-and some are discussing boycotting the beer altogether. I honestly don't see it because it is talking about a beer but since there are Black people in the ad and the catch phrase is "sometimes lighter is better", fake wokers went emo. "And that shit racist/bogus so I guess I shouldn't help by posting about it".

"I gotta just say tho".

Hip-hop artist Chance the Rapper on Sunday tweeted the promotion was "terribly racist".

Dutch beer giant Heineken chose to retract a commercial after Chance the Rapper called the campaign slogan "sometimes, lighter is better" racist. "That was never our intention and we are taking the feedback to heart in developing future campaigns".

"Heineken has developed diverse marketing that shows there's more that unites us than divides us", the rep said.
