Rapper DMX gets one-year prison sentence for tax fraud

Attorneys Renee Hill (l.), Stacy Richman (c.) and Murray Richman (r.) speak outside the Manhattan Federal Courthouse in NY.

Furthermore, prior to today's sentencing and after his guilty plea, X previously faced 14 counts and 44 years incarcerated.

"It was a salvation of sort to shut out the noise", Richman said.

"It is raw Earl", Richman said in court documents sourced by the Seattle Times.

A NY judge has heard a DMX rap song before adding his own lyrics to a court proceeding, ordering the rapper imprisoned for a year. "We are not here or desirous of molding him into what some may want to see; Earl is uniquely him and that is both his beauty of mind and his genius". Also, X is reportedly "sober" and "invigorated" remaining in good nature at the Metropolitan Correctional Center in Manhattan.

"In the court's view Mr. Simmons is a good man, but very far from a ideal man", U.S. Disrict Judge Jed Rakoff said.

DMX now awaits sentencing after pleading guilty to tax fraud for avoiding $1.7 million in taxes over the course of five years.

Instead of more prison time, DMX's attorney is fighting for a 60-day study of DMX's behavior by consultants.

Simmons' lawyers asked for him to get probation, with a trustee appointed to make sure his earnings to pay off his tax debt and support his 15 children. Authorities claim that the rapper went out of his way to maintain a cash-only lifestyle and didn't have a personal bank account as a means to evade his tax responsibility.
