Rod Salka, a 35-year-old super-featherweight, chose to make boxing great again in his match last night in California against Mexican boxer Francisco Vargas. The top of Salka's trunks had "AMERICA 1ST" written on them, and they were patterned like a brick wall. There has been no word on who ended up paying for the wall shorts.

If Salka sought to rile up his Mexican opponent with the provocative shorts, it worked.

Vargas seized control of the fight in the fifth round after landing a punch on Salka's chin that dropped the fighter to his knees.

His political run win about as well as his fight, losing by over 30 per cent to his Democratic opponent.

Mexican boxer Francisco Vargas broke down walls on Thursday.

After several rounds of punishment Salka's corner made a decision to throw the towel in between rounds and Salka was out on his chair. In the sixth, Vargas tore into the Trump supporter with a bevy of power shots and forced Salka's corner to wave the white flag at the end of the round.

That meant that not only did Vargas retain his WBC Super Featherweight championship belt, but he also dealt a lesson to Salka about when it is and is not a good idea to poke the proverbial bear.
