Facebook adds AR drawing and Instagram's Boomerang to Stories

Facebook said there was little evidence people had changed their online behaviour since the data scandal

Starting with the new 3D drawings and Instagram's Boomerang, the social media platform hopes to compete with Snapchat. With the availability of the AR-based 3D drawing feature clear signifies that a major push is being given to the Stories and it is said to help increase the popularity of stories and drive user engagement. We don't know to what extent would the company allow backing up the user data, whether it will be limited to simply letting users download all the photos and videos they have uploaded so far or will they also be getting a backup of all the Stories they have archived and all the messages they have sent.

Stories section is available not only on Facebook, the same Stories section which was first available on Snapchat is now available on Facebook, Facebook Messenger and Instagram.

The AR technology should also be able to detect objects from surfaces. It will not work, for example, in low light conditions and if the software is unsure of the object. As per some reports from the web, the new feature is said to be the worst privacy scandal till date, and Facebook is regularly working on the stories to make it a robust feature available for the users. Users will then be able to wrap around their scribbles around the objects, but the technology is still far from flawless.

Facebook is giving stories a boost by rolling out AR doodles and Instagram's Boomerang to its camera feature suite, Tech Crunch reports.

On the other hand, Instagram's Boomerang feature is going to replace the Camera button on the Stories on Facebook. "Now, it's quicker and easier to capture and share moments as they happen with the people you care about most!" .

Facebook has been pushing its Stories tool aggressively, despite a muted response from users. Facebook Stories will now allow a user to scribble or draw shapes on videos of the world around them.

Apart from the new features, Facebook is also making the panel larger and adding a camera window in the status composer.
