Redick scored 28 points and Ben Simmons posted a near triple-double (17 points, 14 assists and nine rebounds) as the Philadelphia 76ers beat the Miami Heat 130-103 in Game 1 of their first-round National Basketball Association playoff series at the Wells Fargo Center in Philadelphia on Saturday.

With the win, the young 76ers take a 1-0 series lead. Game 2 is on Tuesday (AEDT), while Game 3 would not be until Friday. Simmons since the beginning of March averaged 11 points on 58.7% shooting, 10.1 assists and 9.3 rebounds in 23 games, of which Philadelphia won 20.

J.J. Redick led the Sixers in scoring with 28 points (four three-pointers) and Marco Belinelli, a late addition to the roster after the Hawks bought out his contract in February and Philadelphia signed shortly after, added 25 points (four three-pointers) off the bench.

"If it was my decision, I would play, but I can't get back out on the court if I don't have the OK from them", said Embiid.

Kelly Olynyk led Miami with 26 points. Amir Johnson started at center in Game 1 and would likely do so until Embiid is cleared to return. Expect Embiid to sport a mask once available to play.

Game 2 goes down Monday night at the Wells Fargo Center, with Game 3 taking place Thursday at the American Airlines Arena in South Beach.
