A Binghamton University student died after he was stabbed on campus, university officials said on the Binghamton University Facebook page.

Joao Souza, 19, was stabbed at approximately 10:30 p.m.by a suspect described as "a light-skinned male wearing dark trousers and a dark, Puma hooded sweatshirt".

Police and university officials are not releasing any further details at this time. "We are in the process of contacting them". However, the Press & Sun-Bulletin in Binghamton reported that it occurred in Windham Hall, a residential building.

Since the first alert, reports of a suspect have been issued. "Any information that you have should be reported to BinghamtonU Police at 607-777-2393".

The incident "does not appear to be a random act", officials said.

Investigators from university and the state police interviewed people overnight.
