Nine people were killed and 58 injured in an IED blast at Mecca Masjid in Hyderabad

All ten accused in Mecca Masjid blast case have been acquitted by Nampally Court in Hyderabad today.

"Blast case verdict - Justice has not been done, NIA & Modi govt didn't even Appeal against Bail that was given to Accused within 90 days this was a complete biased investigation which will weaken our resolve to Fight Terrorism, MMasjid 9 people died many injured", he wrote. However, only five - Devendra Gupta, Lokesh Sharma, Swami Aseemanand, Bharat Mohanlal Rateshwar and Rajendra Chowdhary - were arrested.

The explosion ripped through the mosque on May 18, 2007.

Two other accused, Sandeep V Dange, former RSS pracharak and Ramchandra Kalsangra, electrician-cum-RSS activist, also from Madhya Pradesh are still eluding the investigators.

However, the major twist in the case came in 2010, when Aseemanand, apparently moved by the plight of framed, innocent Muslim men, chose to come clean about the role of Hindu extremists in the blast. During my interaction with Kaleem I learnt that he was previously arrested in the Mecca Masjid bomb blast case and he had to spend about oneand- a-half years in prison. Two live IEDs were also recovered by police and defused. The agency listed 226 prosecution witnesses, of whom 64 had changed.

The Court while delivering its verdict acquitted all the 10 accused including Swami Aseemanand, a former Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) member who had given a signed confession.

March 23, 2017: Hyderabad court has granted Aseemanad bail on condition that he cannot leave Hyderabad and Secunderabad.

March 31, 2017: Asimanand Released from Jail.

The fourth additional metropolitan sessions-cum-special court for NIA cases had concluded the trial in the 2007 case and last week posted the matter for judgment on April 16.

The high profile case was handed over to the Central Bureau Of Investigation (CBI), which filed a charge sheet and later the National Investigation Agency (NIA) took over from the in 2011.
