Michy Batshuayi's World Cup Place in Jeopardy with Season-Ending Injury

Michy Batshuayi's World Cup Place in Jeopardy with Season-Ending Injury

"To win the derby towards the end of the season is a real highlight", Schalke sporting director Christian Heidel told Sky.

"We played a great first half".

The Belgium global has scored nine goals in 13 appearances, as Dortmund sit fourth in the Bundesliga table with four games of the season remaining.

Konoplyanka had the beating of Burki on the stroke of half-time after cutting in from the left, but his strike flew inches past the far post.

Both sides staged a lively start into the clash, and Alessandro Schoepf created the first chance of the game after testing Dortmund goalkeeper Roman Buerki with a long range effort in the 5th minute.

Konoplyanka broke the deadlock just five minutes after the restart as he latched onto Daniel Caligiuri's pass in behind the defence and slotted past Burki.

Elsewhere, Leipzig and Werder Bremen shared the spoils following a 1-1 draw.

With four games to play, qualification for next season's Champions League is by no means a given, and Reus revealed that only the end goal - qualifying for the competition - and not the means is what counts now.

Dortmund's disappointing afternoon ended with Michy Batshuayi being stretchered off in injury time. Max Kruse's curling shot struck the bar, and Niklas Moisander scuffed the ball in on the rebound.

The goal brought the game to life in the second half, and both Bremen's Moisander and Leipzig's Timo Werner missed golden opportunities to net a victor in the dying minutes.

With the draw, Leipzig climb on the 5th place, eyeing for a berth in UEFA Europa League while Bremen continue on the 12th position of the table.
