Man City eye record books after clinching title

Man City slump threatens next season's title bid

Man City slump threatens next season's title bid

City could clinch their third league title in seven seasons if they beat Tottenham on Saturday and United lose against West Bromwich Albion but Guardiola does not expect Jose Mourinho's side to lose momentum in the final stretch.

While there has always been an inevitability about Manchester City's fifth top-tier league title in English football, even manager Pep Guardiola probably never envisaged the ease with which it would ultimately be achieved.

A week after City surrendered a 2-0 lead to lose 3-2 to United and squander the chance to wrap up the title in ideal style against their arch-rivals, it was relegation-bound West Brom who served it up on a plate.

City claimed the crown with five games remaining, equalling the fastest-ever title success and are on schedule to break the points and goals record for a single season.

"We played so good in many games", Guardiola said.

"I'm buzzing, over the moon, so happy".

It reflected City's specialness, just as the records of this season should. Considering the fact how they have demolished their rivals this season, it was only a forgone conclusion that the Pep Guardiola's men would win the title.

"That is why he has to work harder but if he is able to learn, he is going to win important Premier Leagues and help his confidence".

United have 71 also with five to play. Manchester City has won 28.

United hold the current record Premier League winning margin of 18 points and that could also fall to City.

Guardiola's response was to spend a club record £57 million (US$80.3 million, RM315 million) on Aymeric Laporte from Athletic Bilbao in January, taking his spending to an eye-watering £448 million on 16 players since arriving.

"I think we share one thing - he's been able to transfer to the team that hunger and desire to never be satisfied".

Fuelled by the majestic form of Kevin De Bruyne, David Silva, Sergio Aguero and Raheem Sterling, City set a new Premier League record earlier this season by winning 18 successive matches.

"I'm probably the first one to think about next season". There have been a lot more good days for the Red side but today it is for the Blue.

How campaigns finish does often dictate how they're remembered, regardless of how good you've been before that. "The Premier League is the constant - every day, every day, every day - and we were there every day".
