United had to at least draw to keep the title race mathematically alive but were stunned at Old Trafford when Jay Rodriguez headed home after the break.

United delayed City's coronation as league champions when they came from two-goal down to win 3-2 at the Etihad Stadium last weekend.

Now on 87, they need just nine more points to break Chelsea's Premier League record set during the 2004-05 campaign.

The result sparked celebrations among the Light Blue half of Manchester but Mourinho said City's title deserved to be recognised for its true value.

"We didn't play simple, everything was slow, one more flick, trick, turn". They are presently on 87 points and if Man U win all their remaining games, they can not go beyond 86 points. Everything was complicated. We couldn't think fast, we couldn't play fast.

Manchester City need just 13 points from their last five games to reach the 100-point mark in the Premier League; something that has never been achieved in the English top-flight (based on three points for a win).

"In the end, if we analyse the game, they fully deserve the victory", he said.

"Today is a sense of achievement because we've won the title in a way for the first time, I'd like to have won all other titles, so I'm extremely proud about this, and extremely aware of how fast these moments can go".

Henry, who implored him to emulate his City performance on a more consistent basis, said that such displays prove he can not. But I expect you to be consistent in a certain level.

"I don't know if I was the first or second or third but I congratulated them face to face when I had chance to do it".

He said: "They won the title because they were the best team, because they won a great amount of points".

Guardiola's lot also joined Sir Alex Ferguson's United from the 2000-01 season as the only Premier League sides to secure England's top prize with five matches remaining.

United have scored a full 30 goals fewer than City this season and Mourinho has not managed to get his side to click, despite being able to bring on further talent such as Marcus Rashford, Jesse Lingard and Anthony Martial.
