Stormy Daniels lawyer joins fight over Donald Trump lawyer's files

Michael Cohen, President Donald Trump's personal attorney, has been "under criminal investigation" for months in NY because of his business dealings, the Justice Department said Friday.

NEW YORK-President Donald Trump's personal lawyer Michael Cohen tried to discredit a report alleging he had taken a secret trip to Prague at the height of the 2016 presidential campaign.

After much speculation over who would show up at Michael Cohen's New York City hearing this week, Michael Avenatti said his client, porn actress Stormy Daniels, would indeed make an appearance. He was ordered to appear as his lawyers try to hold off prosecutors from reviewing documents and other materials seized last week in raids on his home, office and hotel room.

A United States prosecutor has attacked a claim by President Donald Trump's long-time personal lawyer Michael Cohen that numerous materials seized this week in Federal Bureau of Investigation raids on Mr Cohen's office and home as part of a criminal investigation should remain private. Cohen said the payment, which was made 11 days before the 2016 presidential election, was a private transaction, and claimed that neither the Trump Organization nor the Trump campaign was involved.

It has been widely reported that among the targets are communications regarding payments made to Clifford and ex-Playboy model Karen McDougal, both of whom allegedly had affairs with Trump and signed non-disclosure agreements prior to the 2016 election.

As his lawyers went to court in NY on Friday to try to block prosecutors from reading files that were seized from the personal lawyer, Michael D. Cohen, this week, Trump found himself increasingly isolated in mounting a response. In January 2016, Cohen emailed Russian President Vladimir Putin's spokesman in bid to secure Kremlin help launching a new Trump Tower.

"Attorney Davidson never consented to any recordings of his conversations with Mr. Cohen". This month, Kosachev was among 24 high-profile Russians whom the USA sanctioned in retaliation for Russia's meddling.

While Trump had the "utmost interest" in ensuring that the process of preserving attorney-client privilege was respected, so did the public - and anyone who has ever sought legal counsel, Hendon said.

According to Potter, whether President Trump paid Cohen back still renders the initial payment an illegal campaign contribution.

The disclosures raise the prospect that Cohen may have cut other deals to bury salacious claims about Trump.

The prosecutors noted Cohen had personally not turned over any documents to Robert Mueller's Special Counsel investigation. She alone decided that she did not want to continue with the pregnancy and I offered to help her financially during this hard period.
