WhatsApp's new feature allows users to download deleted media from chat

According to the report, the recipient was able to download media from a text sent 2 months ago but there for the messages dating back to nearly a year, the application asks to request the sender to send the file again. Now, the messaging app has introduced a new feature that lets users download deleted media files.

Amid all the crisis of data protection across the globe, WhatsApp has launched another feature that increases the brand's liability to store personal user data more securely.

WhatsApp on Android will let users re-download old media messages, including videos and images that might have been deleted from the user's mobile storage.

WhatsApp for Android has added some new features and bug fixes in its latest updates.

WhatsApp previously stored "undownloaded" media content on its servers for 30 days and deleted it as soon as the user viewed it on their device.

According to WABetaInfo, which is known for its updates on new and upcoming features on WhatsApp, the feature is live on Android.

The feature is now available for Android users and there is no information whether it will make it way to iOS. On Android, if you have chosen to save WhatsApp media on the phone, it gets saved into a dedicated folder in the path (sdcard/WhatsApp/).

Also, WhatsApp, which has introduced Unified Payment Interface (UPI) service for users to transact money in India, is also testing the Quick Response (QR) code scan feature. However, WhatsApp had recently announced that their data and chats are secured with end-to-end encryption and nobody can read messages and listen to calls.

With the new feature, WhatsApp has essentially extended the amount of time it stores the data on its servers. Any WhatsApp user can become a beta tester for the app. For instance, instead of "Today", messages which are exchanged on that day are appearing with "84oday"; instead of "Yesterday" the timestamp is shown as "89esterday" for messages which are exchanged a day before.
