Debate Is Over: Gerrymandering Is Crucial to GOP's Hold on House

And 52 percent of registered voters say it's extremely or very important to them to support a candidate who shares their view of Trump, rising to 60 percent of likely voters. Other polls are more split.

A GOP mega-donor and hedge fund billionaire is fed up with the president and Republicans' inability to get things done despite having control of the Congress and the White House, so he's giving his money to Democrats.

The result is a mixed bag for the Republican Party, which has been hoping to battle political headwinds in the midterm elections by promoting the tax cut that Congress approved four months ago and by celebrating improvements in the economy. The poll found that in accordance with the average border Democrats appreciated within those districts in 2014 and 2016, the candidate was preferred by voters to the Republican candidate 59% to 28 percent, at such 7 districts united.

Klarman has always had a distaste for Trump, even backing Hillary Clinton in the past presidential election, after Tump won the Republican nomination. "Not merely will be new-jersey Democrats doing greater on the generic household ballot state wide, but also the change is coming nearly entirely out of districts now owned by the GOP".

A March 2-9 CNN poll found the generic congressional ballot had tightened to some 6-point lead for Democrats.

Using another gauge, registered voters who see Trump favorably as a person are 10 points more likely than those who see him unfavorably to seek a candidate who agrees with them. Although 58 percent of all adults say they are sure they will vote this year, that falls to fewer than 4 in 10 among adults younger than 30.

At the same time, white voters with college degrees, a competitive voting bloc, are 14 points more likely to say they are certain to vote than whites with some college or less, a group that has increasingly favored Republicans and voted for Trump at record levels. The share of Democrats and Democratic-leaning independents who report being registered to vote has slipped from 84 percent in November to 79 percent in January and 75 percent now.

Almost 40 percent of registered voters believe it is extremely important that political candidates share their views on gun control. In the Senate, the GOP advantage is slimmer, with 51 Republicans, 47 Democrats and two independents that caucus with the Democrats. Frank LoBiondo, R-2nd Dist., and Rodney Frelinghuysen, R-11th Dist., have announced their retirements, and the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee has targeted their districts and the three remaining House Republicans.

Republicans have sought to balance that risk by tying Democratic candidates to Pelosi. "What remains consistent is Democrats running untested and flawed candidates against proven Republican leaders across New Jersey". Among Republicans, she is well-known and widely disliked, with 74 percent holding unfavorable views of her, 63 percent strongly.

The Journal/NBC News poll was conducted April 8-11 and included 900 adults. It had a margin of error plus or minus 3.7 percentage points for your complete sample and 3.9 percentage points for registered voters.
