Flipkart partners with Asus new smartphone to launch in India on April 23

The first smartphone under this partnership - ZenFone Max Pro - will be launched on April 23.

Not a lot is known about the ZenFone Max Pro for now but both Flipkart and Asus claim it will be highly disruptive on launch.

Indian e-tailer Flipkart made its "big" announcement today which was nothing but a partnership with Asus to manufacture products under what the Taiwanese company termed the "Made for India" initiative. Interestingly, even the Redmi Note 5 Pro made its global debut in India. Moreover, both these companies will support each other for planning and execution of marketing activities for ASUS ZenFone smartphones in the country.

Asus has been struggling in the Indian smartphone for a while now, and the new partnership with Flipkart will help the brand to become more visible in the online retail space.

ASUS said that the ZenFone Max Pro will be powered by Qualcomm's Snapdragon 636 SoC, however, the company didn't reveal any other details of this smartphone like amount of RAM, storage, camera configuration, display size or battery capacity.

Interestingly, Amazon is also eyeing Flipkart and is considering buying a majority stake in its biggest rival in India.

Commenting on the announcement, ASUS CEO Jerry Shen said, "As a core pillar of our consumer centric strategy in India, we see tremendous opportunity in creating products and services that address India's special market needs". Flipkart's unparalleled distribution reach and marketing strengths will help Asus build strong awareness for our innovative high-value products and reach consumers across India.

While unveiling the Flipkart-Asus partnership in New Delhi on Tuesday, Flipkart CEO Kalyan Krishnamurthy said, "Flipkart has driven the adoption of smartphones in India, and grown the market, through innovations and a deep sense of knowing what consumers want".

Apart from assisting Asus in the sales and marketing of its smartphones, Flipkart will also help the company develop new products aimed at the Indian consumers and based on Flipkart's learnings from consumer interests and demands. We expect to gain more insights about Indian consumers with Flipkart's partnership.
