Ola has already launched its first electric vehicle project as a part of a pilot in Nagpur on May 26 past year. After more than four million electric kilometers traveled and many lessons learned, we are significantly expanding our commitment to electrify mobility in India.

"Three wheelers are a vital means of transportation and a source of livelihood for millions of people every day".

Without disclosing names, Aggarwal said the company will expand its fleet to three other cities in India.

Ola co-founder and chief executive Bhavish Aggarwal said three-wheelers also offer an immediate opportunity to improve results for all stakeholders, while lessening pollution across towns and cities.

Didi Chuxing, the dominant player in China, is offering electric auto sharingin partnership with 12 companies including Renault (RNLSY), Nissan (NSANF) and Kia. "We are in active conversation with several state and municipal governments, deployment of electric vehicles requires the support of like-minded partners", said an Ola spokesperson, declining to comment on the specific states.

Ola's pilot in Nagpur encompasses a range of electric vehicles from cabs to so-called three-wheelers: the affordable, ubiquitous ride for many middle-class Indians.

Ola is believed to already be in talks with several state governments, OEM (original equipment manufacturers), and EV innovators across the globe.

Ola will work with driver-partners, cities, vehicle manufacturers, and battery companies to make sustainable technologies cost-effective and viable in daily mobility, it stated. It says the program has delivered knowledge into effectively managing vehicles, batteries and operations. So their decision of introducing cleaner comfortable and safer products is quite remarkable and can have positive effects. It added that it plans to continue exploring ways to optimise batteries and charging.

Reports last May had suggested that Japanese holding firm SoftBank Group Corp., Ola's main investor, was bullish about the electric vehicle market in India.

Ola's ambitions dovetail with the government's objectives. As a part of the Maharashtra deal, e-cabs, e-buses, e-rickshaws, and e-autos will all be brought on one platform. "We have set a target to introduce around 10,000 electric vehicles in various cities of the country". Apart from Lithium, there also is Zoomcar, which also has tied up with Mahindra and Mahindra for the rental of Electric Vehicles.

Currently, Delhi seems to be a thriving hub for e-rickshaws.

Around the same time, it was also reported that a number of Ola drivers wanted to return their vehicles due to long waiting times at charging stations and higher operating expenses.
