Trump Applauds Israel's 70th Anniversary, Says US Has 'No Better Friends Anywhere'

"In just a short time, the people of Israel have created a successful nation that has flourished and continues to thrive", John Sullivan, acting secretary of state, said in a statement. But prospects for peace with Palestinians are increasingly distant due to the pro-Israel stance of US President Donald Trump's administration. "We have no better friends anywhere".

Israel has fought half a dozen wars with Arab countries since its establishment in 1948, battled two Palestinian uprisings and endured dozens of deadly militant attacks.

"I am pleased to report that at least six countries have seriously talked to us about moving their embassies to Jerusalem".

"Today we welcome and are thankful for the good", he said.

Netanyahu says Israel will stand firm against "continued incitement by our neighbors, a great many of whom refuse to come to terms with our existence", and cautions that "anyone who raises a hand against us won't be spared".

Speaking at the annual torch-lighting that ushered in the holiday on Wednesday night, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu celebrated the return of Jews to their biblical homeland, expressed hope for the future and sent a combative message to Israel's enemies. Israel is a close friend and partner of the United Kingdom and we fully support Israel as a Jewish Homeland.

German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier wrote in a letter to his Israeli counterpart Reuven Rivlin, "Israel celebrates 70 years of independence and we celebrate with it".

Planes from the Austrian, British, Canadian, Greek, Italian and Polish air forces took part in the IAF's traditional Independence Day nationwide flyover on Thursday.
