Leafs down Bruins to force Game 7 in Boston

But alas, it didn't matter as Devante Smith-Pelly responded quickly with a snipe to padd the Caps' lead and Chandler Stephenson made it bit comfier with a shorthanded goal to make it 5-2.

Washington casually whipped out four straight wins to march on to the second round, which was capped off with a 6-3 win in Columbus in Game 6.

The season-long goalie-interference controversy came to call at 3:04 when Matthews bulled his way around the net, with Bruins defenceman Charlie McAvoy all over him, and threw the puck in front.

Shortly after he made that style of save in Game 3, Andersen tried to say those saves may be unusual but all in a day's work.

You'll recall the underdog Maple Leafs kept pushing the Capitals to overtime last April - five times in six games - but Marner was still recovering from a battle with mononucleosis.

But Smith-Pelly increased the Capitals lead again 91 seconds later when he broke away and lifted a shot over Bobrovskys glove. Columbus's Foligno didn't give up though, scoring his second of the night, but Lars Eller flung it from the defensive zone to seal it with the empty netter with 13.9 seconds left. But Nylander finally showed up in the series at an opportune time, as he knocked in a fat rebound 35 seconds later to tie the score with his first goal of the series. Columbus switched up its bottom three lines under Panarin-Dubois-Atkinson, moving Calvert — who has had three goals in the series — up from the third to the second.

The Toronto Maple Leafs took on the Boston Bruins in the arena just hours after a van rammed into pedestrians, killing 10 people and injuring 16 others.

The first period opened with a fast pace, with both team getting shots on net early. Nikita Zaitsev added two assists, and Marner and Plekanec each had one.

Jake DeBrusk had his third goal of the playoffs for the Bruins.

Bruce Cassidy went through each of the first three goals allowed by the Bruins in their Game 5 loss last weekend, and each of them needed better "rush defense" executed by the Bruins. Fifteen others were injured. Boston's Tuukka Rask had 27 saves.

The ensuing penalty kill was clinical by Toronto as they completely shut down the Bruins' power play and almost scored a shorthanded goal when Kasperi Kapanen broke in alone on Tuukka Rask, only to have Rask just get enough of his shot to send it wide.

The Leafs couldn't connect on their third power play moments later, and Andersen stoned Sean Kuraly with under 10 minutes to go.

Rask then robbed Nylander off a great feed from Auston Matthews.

Then, before the B's had a chance to set up an attack with Rask pulled for the extra skater, Tomas Plekanec sealed it with a empty-netter with 1:14 left. Luckily for the Maple Leafs, Andersen didn't feel much like letting anything else past him on Monday, stopping the rest of the 32 shots he saw on the night.

Marner has been a candidate for the best player in this series not named Frederik Andersen. Coming into these playoffs, teams that take a 3-1 lead in a best-of-seven series hold an all-time record of 270-28 — good for a success rate of 90.6 per cent. The Bruins lead the series 3-2.
