Showtime Boxing: Broner vs. Vargas Results

Adrien Broner and Jessie Vargas delivered a draw in Brooklyn. Broner was originally supposed to fight Omar Figueroa Jr.in a junior welterweight title eliminator before Figueroa got injured and Vargas had been linked to a fight with WBC welterweight champion Keith Thurman in recent months before the fight fell through twice. Judge Julie Lederman scored the fight 115-113 for Broner, and Eric Marlinski and Kevin Morgan had it 114-114.

"I would love to fight Vargas again", said Broner.

Kevin Cunningham wants Broner to let his "hands go", as "AB" continues to be conservative in his punching. He's f--ed up.

"We went at it for 12 rounds", said Vargas. Hes a two-time world champion for a reason, ” said Broner, who was working for the first time with Kevin Cunningham as his head trainer. “At the end of the day I cant argue because I was fighting on the inside of the ring so I dont know what you saw from the outside. Point blank, period. I was connecting with right hands. "I think it was a good fight". Fans seemed to like it. Instead, Vargas jumped on Broner, landing hard shots to the body on the inside. "In the later rounds I let him come at me and was looking for the counterpunch". Broner busted Vargas open above the left eye in the 11th round though the blood didn't bother Vargas much. It appeared like both men were taking the last round off. Broner walked forward, but neither man let their hands go.

Broner, who dropped a wide and lifeless decision to Mikey Garcia last July, was pleased with his performance.

Cameras caught a flummoxed Gray seemingly unsure of what to do or say, after Broner offered what amounted to a Jimmy "The Greek" Synder impression. "I want to thank coach Cunningham as well as my original coach, Mike Stafford, for realizing I had to do something different".

Broner has won world titles from junior lightweight to welterweight, but lost decisions when he faced his best opponents in Garcia, Shawn Porter in 2015 and Marcos Maidana in 2013.

Vargas continues to control the momentum of the fight with his pure volume of punches.

"My team put me back in this position and I'm thankful for it. I thought he gave away some early rounds, and that cost him".

Vargas: You need to settle down. I felt great. As you can see, I'm clean as a whistle. "I want that fight".

But in the middle rounds of the fight, Broner finally warmed up, or woke up, or both. Im relying on the judges to make the right decision.”.

Vargas was aggressive from the outset. Vargas with less than half a minute to go landed a 3-punch combination to head and body of Broner. Referee Fitz got in on the action when he pulled the fighters apart after a low blow from Broner-absolving himself of missing a groin shot in Round 3.

Vargas lands a punch after the bell, and is warned by the referee, but still controlled the pace of the round.

Broner is now 33-3-1 in his career, with Vargas carrying a record of 28-2-1 in his career. Las Vegas' Vargas wasn't as adamant about the scoring, yet he also feels he deserved a victory.

In Round 1, Broner took the center of the ring and threw out a series of jabs. Broner came on very strong late in the round. Broner tried laughing it off but a couple one-twos tore through "The Problem's" high guard by the end of the stanza. However Vargas then found a second wind and landed a nice looping left hand of his own. "We have to keep fighting".

A piston jab from Vargas came to life in Round 2. He also remained the aggressor late despite getting beaten hard to the body throughout.

Both men said they are interested in a rematch.

On Saturdays telecast, it was announced that Errol Spence Jr. will make the second defense of his IBF Welterweight World Championship against undefeated mandatory challenger Carlos Ocampo June 16 on SHOWTIME in a homecoming fight in Dallas. "I'm an honest man, we went at it for 12 rounds, we can do it again ... Of course, we'll run it back".

"We can do it again".

"I want that fight", Charlo said.

Gervonta "Tank" Davis is promoted by Floyd Mayweather Jr. and has an outspoken and brash persona just like Adrien Broner his longtime friend.
