"We take this report very seriously and it will be fully investigated as all reports of this nature are", a spokesman for the Saudi-led coalition said.

Sammad, head of the Houthis' supreme political council, was "martyred" in the eastern province of Hudaida Thursday, the rebels said in a statement published on the Houthi-run Saba news agency.

The top political leader in Yemen's Houthi-controlled areas was killed last week in a Saudi-led coalition airstrike, Houthi-controlled media outlets said Monday.

On Sunday, Yemeni medical sources said that jets belonging to the Saudi-led coalition carried out two raids on a wedding party in the province of Hajjah.

Initial reports called the strike a US-Saudi action, but it was later confirmed to be Saudi strikes.

According to Saudi Arabia, the Houthis-a Shiite militia backed by Iran-are holding the port of Hodeidah as "a tool of war". The government is backed by a mostly Gulf Arab alliance which in turn receives arms and other support from the United States and Britain.

The Saudi-led coalition blames the Houthis, saying they are using civilians as human shields and hiding among the civilian population. It had offered a $20 million reward for any information that led to Samad's capture.

Humanitarian crisis: The conflict has unleashed the world's most urgent humanitarian crisis, displacing millions of people and leaving many more in desperate need of food and drinking water.

Mahdi al-Mashat, a former fighter who until now directed al-Houthi's office, was elected as a successor.

At the end of a year ago, the Houthis threatened that they would start attacking oil tankers and warships sailing under enemy flags if the Gulf coalition fighting it in the country does not reopen its ports.

The Secretary-General strongly condemns the air strikes on a wedding party in Hajjah and on civilian vehicles in Taizz, where at least 50 civilians, including children, were reportedly killed and scores of others injured.
