But any streaming service is going to a pretty steady flow of original content to keep viewers paying that monthly fee, so what else does DC Universe have in the pipeline?

It was past year when DC Entertainment and Warner Bros. announced a new digital streaming service that would feature both animated and live-action television series based on intellectual properties owned by the comic book publisher.

The official description for the series can be found below. The series, which is based on the DC characters created by Len Wein and Bernie Wrightson, is expected to premiere sometime in 2019.

A Swamp Thing series has been announced, with the one-hour live-action drama set to air exclusively on DC Universe.

Mark Verheiden ("Battlestar Galactica", "Daredevil") and Gary Dauberman ("It", "It 2") will be providing the script for the potential series. James Wan (Aquaman) will exec produce alongside his Atomic Monster banner topper Michael Clear, with the company's Rob Hackett set as a co-exec producer. Meaning if the script kicks some tail and turns some heads, we'll see the project go straight to series.

Comic book fans will remember several humanoid or monster incarnations of Swamp Thing in various storylines.

The story of the series will follow a researcher with the Center of Disease Control and Prevention named Abby Arcane, who returns to her home town of Houma, Louisiana to investigate the spread of a deadly virus around the Louisiana swamps. The character has starred in a 1982 live-action movie by Wes Craven, along with a previous live-action series from 1990-1993. Metropolis and Swamp Thing, on the other hand, are being targeted for a release next year.

Everyone involved in the project has me incredibly excited. Let's also not forget the short lived animated series in the early 90's produced by Fox and quickly taken off of schedule when they saw it wasn't doing very well and shipped it off to Canada. After losing her budding lover, Abby will have to contend with nefarious agents seeking to exploit the swamp's supernatural properties, as well as the shocking nature of her revived paramour.
