Irish weather forecast

Irish weather forecast

Don't don your summer clothes just yet as Met Eireann has warned that we're in for a mixed bag weather-wise today.

"Highest temperatures of 9 to 12C with fresh, gusty west to northwest winds".

Today will be mostly cloudy with loads of drizzle, which is our least favourite type of rain.

Last month the United Kingdom recorded its hottest day in April since 1949, with temperatures reaching 29.1C (84.4F) in London.

There will be further outbreaks of rain and drizzle in most areas tomorrow but temperatures are expected to climb as high as 14C.

"Bank Holiday Monday looks like it will be a fine and dry day for nearly all of the United Kingdom with plenty of blue sky and warm sunshine", said BBC Weather's Nikki Berry.

Chris Bulmer, deputy chief meteorologist at the Met Office said: "We can't promise wall to wall sunshine for everyone this bank holiday weekend, however, it's looking like most of us will get some prolonged warm sunshine at times". Temperatures will be highest in Leinster, Munster and east Ulster.

There's more rain are on the way before the weather improves at the weekend.

Northern England will be slightly cooler at the beginning of the bank holiday weekend with some cloud expected but the skies will be brighter on Sunday and Monday, when the temperature will be 23C or 24C.

Significant work between Glasgow and Edinburgh means East Coast services will start and terminate at Edinburgh, while West Coast trains will not run north of Lancaster/Oxenholme Lake District on Sunday.

The highest temperature on record for May bank holiday was 23°C and the Met Office is confident the mercury will rise higher than that this year. The best weather will be in the southeast. Eastern Scotland will be warmer with temperatures around 21C in Aberdeenshire while western Scotland will hover around 13C.
