I'm still going to compete and try and win that job. But he's confident any battle will not divide Cleveland's locker room.

As for whether or not he scored any tickets to the Cavs' playoff game Saturday night against the Toronto Raptors at Quicken Loans Arena, he was all about rookie minicamp, which concludes on Sunday.

BEREA, Ohio (AP) - Baker Mayfield intends to conquer, not divide.

Baker Mayfield was the No. 1 pick in the 2018 NFL Draft, but he isn't the No. 1 quarterback on the Browns' depth chart.

Cleveland Browns head coach Hue Jackson wants us to all know that Tyrod Taylor is the starting quarterback.

He won't step on any toes.

He was immediately taken off the practice field and will now miss the remainder of the three-day rookie camp, per Cleveland.com's Mary Kay Cabot. "We are going to hammer that, and we are going to work on what I need to work on so that we can go from there".

Last but not least, I asked him who he thought was the best value pick in the later rounds that he believes could develop into a solid starter given a few years to sit behind veterans.

At the NFL Combine, Mayfield was asked about turning around a franchise like the Browns who have struggled since they returned to the league in 1999.

"Been a long journey to get here; a lot of work", Mayfield said. At the top of his list: earning the trust of his teammates.

Mayfield's transition into the National Football League isn't going to be seamless.

When considering the context, I completely understand why many Browns fans are dissatisfied with the Mayfield pick. Recent examples include the likes of former Texas A&M star quarterback Johnny Manziel and former Baylor University Bears and Baltimore Ravens quarterback Robert Griffin III, both of whom were also Heisman winners. You can't talk about it and earn their respect. It's about, 'What are you going to do for it now?

Only time will tell, but if these revelations don't convince you that Mayfield is the man to bring glory to Cleveland, then nothing short of seeing it with your own eyes will.

Mayfield just happened to be that choice for the Browns that will continue to push this conversation around him throughout the offseason because it is an imminent situation that will arise at some point.
