Fitbit finally realises women exist with new female health tools

Fitbit's female health tracking is live

It's probably not too late, though, and besides, both female health tracking capabilities and quick replies are coming to the affordable Versa, as well as the costlier Fitbit Ionic smartwatch, available right now at $250 after a nationwide $50 markdown.

Beyond helping women track their menstrual cycle and ovulation via the app, it wants to educate women on what they should expect during those monthly cycles.

Female health tracking is launching today for all users in the Fitbit app on iOS and Windows - Android users will get it later this month. Android users get quick replies through the Iconic or Versa.

You can also customize your own replies to text messages and messaging apps like WhatsApp or Facebook Messenger, although there is a 60-character limit.

Fitbit also announced new health and wellness apps that were created to help all users.

Elsewhere the update also brings a number of Quick Replies to messages, but there's only five pre-written replies. Fitbit has explicitly said that it wants to attract more women to wearables.

In March, Fitbit officially unveiled the Fitbit Versa - a product it calls a "smartwatch for all". Like the Ionic before it, the Versa still tracks fitness stats with the best of the company's lineup, offering users easy access to daily, weekly, and monthly fitness data, including logged steps, calories burned, and heart rate patterns. Dexcom's app will be available in the second half of the year, while the rest of the app and clock faces that aren't available today should go live by summer 2018. Add that together with the fact that Fitbit already has 25.4 million active users, and there's great potential for this to have a huge impact on feminine medical research. According to Fitbit, this means women will be able to see how their menstrual cycle affects other health indicators like sleep, weight and food intake.

With this program, Fitbit has partnered with health care companies to deliver a variety of new apps to help users manage medical conditions - such as cancer or diabetes - and to improve wellness. Other apps include Diplomat Pharmacy, One Drop, Fitabase, and more.
