Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho has categorically denied that Marcus Rashford and Paul Pogba will not be leaving the club in the summer, insisting that the Red Devils wish to keep the star duo.

He said: "How many points separate us from Manchester City?"

Mourinho will be determined that his side does not suffer another defeat, following last weekend's with the Seagulls and will be telling his players to do all they can to ensure they get the three points on the night.

Asked if he needs more quality or a better mindset in his squad, Mourinho replied: 'Both.

"I give my assistants very good conditions for their evolution and I think Michael can be very positive for us", said Mourinho about the midfielder-soon-to be coach. A few of the people we have, they need to be consistent in their performance, and we want more quality.

"I trust some more than others". That's normal. I understand the players.

"I think he is going to be here next season", Mourinho said.

"Unless the squad is a ideal squad - where, if you buy a player you don't like, then you buy another one - you have to keep in your squad players that you don't love, footballistically, and players that you don't totally believe have the level to the squad".

United know they won't recoup anywhere near the £89m they paid Juventus in 2016, despite still having three years to run on his contract. "Some others I have good hopes that they are going to make it and some others I don't believe they are going to make it".

"Unless you can do that, and you go in the direction of the ideal squad, you have to keep players you don't love and players you don't totally believe have the level of the squad".

The club's longest-serving player, Carrick underwent a procedure for an irregular heart rhythm in November 2017 before returning to Jose Mourinho's squad shortly afterwards.

"For me, the match against the big team is not different to the match against the small team".

"Some guys prefer to have a couple of years to study or go to youth football".

"What does he need to do to impress me?"
