Israel DEFIANT as US Embassy Opens Monday — MIDEAST ON EDGE

On Thursday, may 10, reports The Times of Israel.

Friends of Zion is giving its award to all world leaders who move their embassies to Jerusalem.

The explosives-laden kites are an escalation of the weekly protests called the March of Return, which are scheduled to end on May 14, the 70th anniversary, according to the Gregorian calendar, of the birth of the modern State of Israel. In a statement, the mayor said: "This is not a dream, it's reality".

"President Trump has chose to recognise Jerusalem as the capital of the Jewish people, to stand on the side of the truth, and to do the right thing", Barkat said in a statement.

The US embassy in Israel has changed its Twitter name from USEmbassyTelAviv to USEmbassyJerusalem to reflect the upcoming move next week.

Trump's announcement was largely met with applause inside Israel but otherwise drew global consternation.

Trump's unilateral decision delighted the Israelis and enraged the Palestinians, who want to make the eastern, mainly Palestinian, part of the city the capital of their future state and who say Trump's decision ignores their demands.

Israel considers the Trump declaration as recognition, albeit long delayed, of a historical fact. He also claimed that Israel's borders are not internationally recognized and do not have to be respected. The Trump administration has maintained that it remains committed to forging a peace settlement in the region.

President Donald Trump overturned decades of US policy past year by announcing the Jerusalem move.

"We hope that other countries on the American continent are not going to move their embassies to Jerusalem as this acts against worldwide law", said Abbas. "The perimeter and all movement in the area are being closely watched".
