With AP Photos. The Toronto Raptors have fired coach Dwane Casey after the team was swept in the playoffs by the Cleveland Cavaliers for second straight season.

Casey has served as the Raptors head coach since 2011.

Casey compiled a 320-238 overall record over his seven seasons.

The Raptors won a franchise-record 59 games and captured the top seeding in the Eastern Conference playoffs for the first time in club history, but their ouster by the Cavaliers without winning a game in the best-of-7 series was Casey's undoing. He was the longest-tenured coach in team history and is the franchise's all-time winningest coach.

"This is a team that Casey has built that has had success", an emotional Ujiri said. Perhaps Casey could have held onto his job if the Raptors made it a competitive series, but all hope was lost when even commentators began referring to the team's home as "LeBronto" and "Brontario".

Toronto led by as many as 13 in the third quarter, and by four points with under two minutes remaining, yet, found a way to miss the rest of their field goal attempts in regulation to allow Cleveland to push the game into overtime.

"This is a tough day for us, but, honestly, it's time for our next phase", Ujiri told Prime Time Sports on Friday.

"I don't think I'll work with a better person", Ujiri said.

"We can't be all happy on the farm", he'd say, with the subtlest of winks, after a win.

One thing is for sure, the Coach of the Year speech from Casey is going to be an awkward one but he will probably handle it with class like he has done throughout his time with the organization. In exchange, the team received point guard Kyle Lowry. LeBron James and the Cavs made quick work of all the positivity of the Raptors' regular season. "A lot of my success, all of my success, I have to credit Casey".

"We didn't always see eye to eye, but he let me be me ..."

"As a team, we are constantly trying to grow and improve in order to get to the next level", Uriji said. "He was huge for my growth as a man and an National Basketball Association player". As Ujiri reflected on where the franchise has come from and where he wants it to go, he had to have asked himself and his staff if a different coach would have given them a better chance to advance in the playoffs.

Like Ujiri, we cast a wide net for potential options on Friday.

Ujiri, when he met the media on Friday afternoon, did not make much of a case for the firing of his head coach, something he noted he had never before done in his career. "Hopefully there's a smooth transition but a new coach is going to have his style, he's going to have his voice".
