If not, Dave Dombrowski will need to find the answer via the trade market. Boston will be the home team for MLB's first two games in Europe. Still, not good enough. And the Yankees weren't done, because Aaron Judge came up next and took Kimbrel deep for a two-run homer that accounted for the 9-6 final, as Yankee Stadium broke into delirium at having beaten the Red Sox for a second straight game, and making then winners of 17 out of their last 18 games.

The Red Sox had been tied for first place or in sole possession of first since March 31.

CC Sabathia (2-0, 1.39 ERA) and the rolling New York Yankees go for their 18th victory in 19 games and a three-game sweep of rival Boston. The rivalry between the Yankees and Red Sox is back. The Yankees are just too hot. Boston has issued 17, ninth most in the majors.

Down 6-5 entering the eighth inning, the Yankees scored four runs in the bottom of the inning to take control of the game. He couldn't get the job done and the Red Sox lost because two of those runners scored.

Compared to his total season slash line of.284/.422/.627, Judge seemed to have some trouble hitting left-handed pitchers a year ago, slashing.230/.439/.496 over 155 plate appearances. The righty averaged 2.1 walks per nine innings at Triple-A Pawtucket a year ago.

NY took a 1-0 lead four pitches into the game when Gardner rang a double off the right-center fence and scored on Judge's single up the middle. But he has allowed seven walks in 8 2/3 innings. The bullpen has an ERA of 3.61, along with a WHIP of 1.16. He recorded two important outs here yesterday but he has had an issue with walks as well.

It feels like Joe Kelly and Kimbrel are the only two relievers who can be trusted with one-run leads in the eighth inning or later in these types of playoff-like atmospheres on the road. "Barnes fell behind with Walker and with Torres".

Padres 2, Nationals 1: Matt Szczur hit a go-ahead RBI double in the seventh inning and host San Diego's bullpen pitched four scoreless innings. Miguel Andujar's groundout to second moved Walker to third. "After four breakballs, he throws a fastball and he's all over him". "He got good wood to it". "Tonight, I was happy to see him break through". "So give him credit".

Cora said after the game that the team had specifically planned to use Kimbrel against Gardner if the matchup presented itself in a big spot. It didn't work though.

"I couldn't hear anything", Judge said of rounding the bases.

Next time, regardless of whether it's in the eighth inning or the ninth inning or the 16th inning, he'll just have to make a better pitch. "I got the fastballs and drove one to left center". Kind of stayed in the zone a little longer.

We go through this every April with some teams getting off to great starts and other teams getting off to poor starts and fans at home left to overreact to each win and loss. "Trying to strike him out, and wasn't able to do it".
