Fox says 'Last Man Standing' revival not a conservative statement

"The Cool Kids" one two comedies Fox will premiere this fall stars left to right Leslie Jordan Vicki Lawrence David Alan Grier and Martin Mull who grew up in North Ridgeville

Fox has not yet announced when Last Man Standing will air in the week, but the odds are pretty good that Tim Allen will be happy no matter what. "Now we get the news from FOX that it's time to get back out on that diamond - hell yes, I'm excited", Allen said in a statement announcing the revival. The drama stars Rachelle Lefevre ("Under the Dome", "A Gifted Man"), Vincent Kartheiser ("Mad Men"), Russell Hornsby ("Seven Seconds", "Grimm"), Brian d'Arcy James ("13 Reasons Why", "Spotlight") and Tony Award victor Nikki M. James ("BrainDead", "The Good Wife", "The Book of Mormon").

Walden said the network's been talking to Allen throughout the year and tried to pick the show up when ABC let it go.

"Tim's personal politics really aren't a big feature of the show", Newman said. "It had nothing to do with Roseanne that we were interested in the show in the first place".

Network TV upfronts are taking place this week, and Fox has released a slew of trailers for its upcoming fall lineup, including the return of Last Man Standing.

Still, the line from early in the reboot about Dan and Roseanne Conner sleeping on the couch then waking up after missing black-ish and Fresh off the Boat echoes in some people's minds: "We missed all the shows about black and Asian families", Dan says.

The network revived the ABC show but canceled many fan favorites in the process.

Two of Fox's three series that premiered last fall were renewed - the Marvel Television-produced mutants family series "The Gifted", and the science fiction series "The Orville", which will begin its second season at midseason.

Entertainment Weekly pointed out that "Last Man Standing" on ABC received an average of 8 million viewers with minimal promotion, while "Brooklyn Nine-Nine" averaged less than 3 million.

Last Man Standing got the axe back in May 2017, cancelled months after Season 6 ended on ABC. "If we can't figure out a way to really make some noise with it and attract a new and bigger group of viewers, we probably won't do it".

Fans lobbied to bring back to show after the success of "Roseanne" - which stars Roseanne Barr, a supporter of President Donald Trump, and whose main character is a Trump supporter. "We thought that our Sunday night, young, somewhat male-leaning audience, would be a great opportunity for it".

"We really looked for an opportunity to move it to our schedule and we just didn't have the right show to pair it with", he said. It was a really compressed time when it was canceled at the very end in May.

Those numbers are reasonably impressive overall; given that Last Man Standing hit those numbers in an unenviable Friday night time slot, ABC's decision to cancel the series came as a surprise to many.

"Last Man Standing" is set to return this fall. Oh, has it only been one year?

Fox's other new fall sitcom is "Rel".
