Children rescued from California home were shot and tortured, prosecutors allege

Rogers told reporters earlier this week that the allegations against her and her husband are false.

Investigators say the children were tortured, burned, beaten and shot with a pellet gun while living amid squalor and abuse - all of which allegedly occurred in a bright, four-bedroom house that looks from the outside as well-kept as the rest of the houses on the Northern California cul-de-sac.

It's unclear whether any California government agencies had an opportunity to intervene sooner or knew of the turmoil in the household.

Deputy District Attorney Veronica Juarez wrote in a report that Rogers assisted in the abuse of the children by her husband, Jonathan Allen.

"Nothing was founded, my kids were placed back with me", she said.

Solano County's Child Welfare Services department officials did not immediately provide information on details about the visit or other interactions they may have had with members of the household.

Tattoo artist Jonathan Allen, 29, the children's father, has pleaded not guilty to seven charges of torture and nine of felony child abuse between January 2015 and March 2018. Her 29-year-old partner, Jonathan Allen, had also been taken into custody and charged with torture.

Both parents have denied the allegations. "Everyone helped everyone. It was a complete circle - the older ones helped the little ones".

The investigation was launched at the end of March when Rogers and Allan reported that their 12-year-old son was missing.

"It was obviously unsanitary and not a condition that children - or any human probably - should be living in at the time", Fairfield police Lt. Greg Hurlbut said Monday.

Records show the 10 children removed from the house March 31 are 6 months to 12 years old, but the documents do not specify which child suffered which injuries. Stories about the alleged abuse came out gradually in interviews with the children over the past six weeks and eight of the children told professionals about incidents dating back several years, authorities said. That year, Ina Rogers called police to tell them she'd spent the night away from home after Allen threatened to rip her head off, police said. Parents who teach their own children can register as a private school but the state does not approve, monitor or inspect them. Garbage and spoiled food also reportedly littered the home.

The couple - who deny the charges - say they home schooled their children although the Associated Press reports that their property was not registered as a school, as required by law. She said her daughter failed to get on the school bus on her first day of kindergarten and was later found talking to a stranger and his dog at the school, she said.

"I love my children with all my heart", he said. "So I said, "OK how am I going to do this with all these kids?" She also alleged that Allen put a.22 caliber gun into her mouth and threatened to shoot her, forcing her to beg for her life. "When the children were taken into protective custody and to live with relatives, the children started to disclose vicious and callous acts that were committed against them", said Solano County Chief Deputy DA Sharon Henry. The police discovered him sleeping under a bush, which triggered suspicions and later led to a chilling discovery that an idyllic-looking two-story house in a suburb was, in fact, a house of horrors.
