Paulo Fonseca to reject West Ham, sign new Shakhtar Donetsk deal

David Moyes has left West Ham

David Moyes has left West Ham

If the bookmakers are to be believed, we are likely to be seeing Manuel Pellegrini in the Premier League again next season, this time as West Ham manager.

Moyes has at least rebuilt a coaching reputation that was tarnished by unsuccessful spells in charge of Manchester United, Real Socieded and Sunderland since leaving Everton in 2013.

The Hammers have opted not to renew the Scottish coach's short-term contract, which expired at the end of the season.

The club said they would seek to recruit a "high-calibre" manager within the next 10 days.

The Spaniard had agreed a deal to succeed Sam Allardyce, only for Madrid to swoop for the former Liverpool and Valencia boss.

The West Ham board have stated their intention to appoint his successor within 10 days.

Sensing they might be able to get Benitez from Newcastle as relations appear to be hard between him and owner Mike Ashley over spending, West Ham now look certain to try again.

Paulo Fonseca is looking increasingly likely to remain with Shakhtar Donetsk following reports that he has turned down a move to West Ham.

"Throughout his time here, David has carried himself with dignity and honesty", Sullivan said, "and we have all found him to be a pleasure to work with". Meanwhile, West Ham were reportedly turned down by Carlo Ancelotti, Ronald Koeman, Sean Dyche and Paulo Sousa before getting Moyes.

West Ham's owners David Sullivan and David Gold had initially indicated that would be enough to earn Moyes a two-year extension but the Scot was informed in a meeting on Wednesday that his contract would not be renewed.

"Rafa Benitez has also been backed to leave Newcastle for this role since the news of David Moyes' departure broke". And stability is David Moyes.

"Having taken stock of the situation and reflected now the campaign is complete", West Ham co-chairman David Sullivan said, "we feel that it is right to move in a different direction".
