Jared Kushner now has full access to classified documents

When he joined the White House staff in January 2017, Kushner gained access to sensitive information through a temporary security clearance while the Federal Bureau of Investigation conducted a background check to see if he qualified for a permanent clearance.

According to a source familiar with the situation, Kushner's permanent clearance is the "top" level White House level clearance.

"His application was properly submitted, reviewed by career officials and went through the normal process", attorney Abbe Lowell said in a statement.

Lowell continued to sidestep the question of whether Kushner was a target, subject, or witness, saying, "Nobody has indicated they have any intention of saying to him, you've done something wrong that would merit any charges".

Mueller is investigating the Trump campaign's ties with Russian election meddling. It was limited to questions about former White House national security adviser Michael Flynn, who later was charged with lying to the Federal Bureau of Investigation.

Kushner has had two interview sessions with the special counsel's team. Kushner's lawyer said he has been cooperative with all congressional probes and Mueller's office. That means Kushner once again has access to the nation's most sensitive information.

"In each occasion, he answered all questions asked and did whatever he could to expedite the conclusion of all the investigation", Lowell said. At one point, the White House had dozens of employees awaiting permanent clearances before Chief of Staff John F. Kelly ordered an overhaul of the process. He updated the form in the spring, listing about 100 contacts, but did not mention the June 2016 Trump Tower meeting he attended with Russian lawyer Natalia Veselnitskaya, Donald Trump Jr., and former Trump campaign chairman Paul Manafort.

According to the person, Mueller's team did not ask questions about Kushner's business or finances, including his family's real estate company.

Some experts said that the evolving disclosures might have been disqualifying for another person and that it could explain the delay in granting Kushner a clearance.
